Primarily because my slacking has gotten the best of me, and I don’t have anything prepared this week. Nevertheless, I said I’d post every week, and here it is!
Almost done with the second round of edits for Broken Trails. One thing I’ve learned in this process of writing, editing, and publication is this: putting words on paper is similar to putting make up on. When I’m done, it’s THERE, baby! I might look like a clown, but I’ve got the foundation, the eyeliner, the mascara and the rouge all in their proper places on my face. EDITORS are the professionals who sit me down at the make up counter, and clean up the mess. By the time I’m done, I look drop-dead gorgeous! But I could never do it alone.
I’ve been blessed with three great editors over the years — Day Petersen, Medora MacDougal and Cindy Cresap. My books wouldn’t look nearly pretty enough to be read without these ladies. Next time you see ’em, tell ’em they ROCK!
Tomorrow, I have a meeting with my in-house content editor. We have a long discussion planned regarding Beloved Lady Mistress. This means my vacation is over, time to get back to work. On Thursday, I begin the line-by-line edits of the manuscript. Deadline is Tax Day, so I’ve gotta get a move on!
In other news — I’m almost finished reading Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I’d read it and its immediate sequel, Forever Odd, a few years ago. Recently I received books three and four, but it’s been so long since the first reading, I started the whole series over again. Good stuff. Odd is a wonderful young man with a distinctive voice. The book is quite entertaining, and I recommend it to those who like darker things (ghosts and poltergeists, to be specific.)
And I’m off! Have a good week, and drop me a message. I’d love to hear from you!
